Optimising RETE for Low-Memory Multiagent Systems

نویسنده

  • Neil Madden
چکیده

Optimisations to the standard Rete algorithm are presented as a means of bringing advanced, rule-based artificial intelligence techniques to low-memory systems — in particular, current and future generations of games consoles. A brief introduction to Rete and the issues involved in its implemention on low memory hardware is followed by a discussion of the solutions developed. By sharing resources it is possible to enable the algorithm to run efficiently on low memory machines. A brief overview of the implementation of a rule interpreter which makes use of these optimisations is included.

The execution kernel of RC++: RETE*, a faster RETE with TREAT as a special case

Some behaviour of computer game agents can be naturally expressed as collections of rules and knowledge bases. Generalpurpose rule-based languages provide high-level constructs for expressing complex conditional behaviour. We examine the runtime kernel of RC++, a rule-based language developed for game AI, to explore the costs associated with adopting general-purpose, rule-based approaches for c...

Lana-Match Algorithm: A Parallel Version of the Rete-Match Algorithm

The Rete–Match algorithm is a matching algorithm used to develop production systems. Although this algorithm is the fastest known algorithm, for many patterns and many objects matching, it still suffers from considerable amount of time needed due to the recursive nature of the problem. In this paper, a parallel version of the Rete–Match algorithm for distributed memory architecture is presented...

Design of a Large Scale Expert System using Fuzzy Logic for Uncertainty Reasoning

There exist in the literature today many contributions dealing with the incorporation of fuzzy logic in expert systems But unfortunately much of what has been proposed can only be applied to small scale expert systems that is when the number of rules is in the dozens as opposed to in the hundreds Rete networks have been used in the more traditional expert systems to ameliorate the computational...

High-level tasks in image understanding are similar to many AI problems in terms of complexity and solution techniques. In particular, rule based systems have been employed for image interpretation using domain knowledge. Past research eeorts on the hardware support of rule-based systems typically assume that little data access locality can be explored. Thus, the Rete network is widely used, an...
